Pre-eclampsia is really a situation where hypertension arises in being pregnant in association with significant amounts of protein appearing from the urine, which is dangerous to both her wellbeing and development in the baby. It’s also one in the main causes of death in women all over the world.

Though it can be unclear how pre-eclampsia happens, but a theory suggests that it’s triggered by cost-free radicals and taking antioxidants could clean up these radicals thus lowering the risk.

Cochrane researchers reviewed the data from 10 trials involving 6,533 girls assessing the effects of antioxidants (including nutritional vitamins C and E) in the course of pregnancy.

They observed that there was no reduction in the threat of pre-eclampsia with the use of antioxidant supplements.

“Evidence doesn’t currently support routine use of antioxidant supplements throughout being pregnant as a means of cutting down the danger of pre-eclampsia or other critical difficulties,” said lead author Dr Alice Rumbold, who works at the Menzies School of Wellbeing Research in Darwin, Australia.
